Chemical-Physical Reaction for Boron Abatement
In a chemical-physical batch process for boron abatement, the customer needed to mix a fluid that increases its viscosity (up to 10000 cPs in the final phase) when other additives are dosed. The fluid density is 1 to 1.2 kg/dm3. The pH varies from 0.1 to 13.5 according to the process phase.
The process is batch and consists of 3 phases:
- Initial phase with vigorous agitation. Acid eluates (HCl 5%) are present in the reactor, lime and sodium hydroxide (NaOH, dosed concentrated 50%)
- Intermediate phase with addition of phosphoric acid (H3PO4). In this phase the viscosity changes to reach 10000 cPs. The mixing intensity should be capable of dissolving the acid dosed on the fluid surface and keep the solution blended. At the same time, the mixing intensity should decrease, to avoid the gelification breakup. Both tasks can be fulfilled by our impellers.
- Final phase with addition of a anionic polyelectrolyte solution to form flocs.
PRO-DO-MIX installed 2 mixers, model GEC.55102.L.400/PSX2YY.
The double 3PM-1084 Excellent impeller, diameter 1000 mm, can guarantee the perfect intensity of agitation in each process phase, even completely different ones, since it is particularly suitable to operate with strong intensity (70 rpm) but also for gentle mixing (25 to 30 rpm).
The drive unit is composed of a 5,5 kW motor with rain cap and an industrial planetary gearbox, able to support the thrusts of the impeller 4 m distant from the mounting flange. The units are run with frequency converter (VSD) supplied by the customer.
The drive unit has a special paint, C5M, due to the plant location near to the sea.
All wetted parts have been completely anti-abrasive rubber lined, 4 mm thickness.
