These 3 plants are aimed at the production of a ceramic product by milling zirconium in wet mills.

The medium is a heavy slurry. The dosed product tends to form large, heavy blocks (icebergs) difficult to be mixed. The specific weight can reach values above 2 kg/dm3. The big vat is 3660 mm diameter and 3660 mm height.

PRO-DO-MIX’s proposal is a single agitator, model GPL.A5202.Q.340/SH3, to replace the existing “old” gate mixer system with low speed and big, heavy blades.

The mixers’ drive unit is composed of a 15 kW motor and a bevel gearbox. The units are run with frequency converter (VSD).

The agitators have been manufactured with three 3PM-0030 high efficiency impeller, diameter 2000 mm. PRO-DO-MIX have chosen a 3-impeller design due to the high specific weight and the presence of blocks (icebergs) to be broken and homogenised. When dealing with heavy slurry, a single impeller would be able to generate its mixing power (bottom-up movement) only for a limited medium level in the vat. Thanks to our design, the mixing power is spread into the whole vat and the mixing regime is turbulent, with high transfer rate.

The vat is equipped with baffles. PRO-DO-MIX have been in charge of the baffles design, since they are an important element to be considered to enhance the mixing effect and ensure a correct and effective homogenisation of the slurry, combined with the geometry of the impeller. The result is a constant and smooth mixing, with an homogeneous physical composition of the whole slurry mass.
